Homeschooling
Your Special Child: Ten Tips
LD online has an array of
resources for children with learning disabilities. Terri Lynn Bittner
provides ten tips entitled Homeschooling Your Special Child, which gives
great tips for all families, such as becoming knowledgeable about your
child’s disability, talking to your child about his disability
and mastering the basics in reading and math to ensure a good foundation.
This tip sheet is great for families and can also be given by educators
to their classes. Remember, whether or not your child is in a public
school setting or is home schooled, a continuum of regular learning
at home will only enhance their chances of school success. To view the
entire tip sheet, please click on the following link: http://www.ldonline.org/article.php?max=20&id=868&loc=l5
School
Accommodations and Modifications
This article provides families
with information on how to incorporate appropriate accommodations and
modifications for their child’s educational program. The FAPE
organization provides this article on their website which can be used
by both families and educators to help with accommodations in the areas
of curriculum, books, classroom environment, assignments and transitions.
Most importantly accommodations and modifications are defined well enough
that parents and educators are aware of what’s needed for the
child. You can also find examples of how to include such accommodations
and modifications in a child’s 504 plan or IEP. To view the entire
article, please click on the following link: http://www.fape.org/pubs/FAPE-27%20School%20Accomodations%20and%20Modifications.pdf
